Beaufort South Carolina Restaurants

south carolina restaurants beaufort shrimp festival

There are dozens of Beaufort South Carolina restaurants serving Low Country cuisine like shrimp and grits, hushpuppies and fried green tomatoes. Where ever you choose to eat you’re sure to be delighted.

If your tastes run toward more upscale dining, you can visit Emily’s, Bateaux, the Saltus River Grill, or Plums. The seafood choices are fresh and the food is delicious.

If you visit Bateaux, I know that you will enjoy the wild mushroom and asparagus risotto and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, which are always perfectly cooked. Their menu varies but the chefs are happy to prepare special requests for you.

The South Carolina Beaufort area is known for fresh seafood and you should try to make a stop in town during the Beaufort Shrimp Festival which is the first weekend of October. The Beaufort Shrimp Festival is a favorite event for us and it's fun for everyone. Who would guess shrimp could be served so many different ways?

Bon Appétit!

  • Emily's

Emily’s is a restaurant where people go to sample the fabulous tapas bar which includes garlic beef, baby lamp chops, fried scallops, tempura shrimp, stuffed peppers, spring rolls and lots of other items. This is one of the restaurants in Beaufort SC where everything is served in large portions so if you have a big appetite you may want to eat here. The piano bar is a big attraction but if you’re sensitive to smoke avoid this restaurant.

  • Bateaux

The Bateaux considered contemporary among South Carolina restaurants has stunning views of the Beaufort River. Seafood being their specialty you’ll enjoy the fresh and pleasing to the eye dishes. Restaurants in Beaufort SC are all unique but this one has a very friendly staff and is tastefully decorated.

  • Saltus River Grill

Saltus River Grill is one of those unique, charming Beaufort South Carolina restaurants with a contemporary New York feel. We love the excellent view of the Intracoastal Waterway from its waterfront patio. Where else can you find a restaurant that has historic charm, great ambience and delicious seafood? Only restaurants in Beaufort SC offer such character. Give this one a try you'll soon find out why the place is always buzzing.

  • Plums

Plums is a casual restaurant which offers soups, sandwiches and ice cream all which are very tasty. Even Barbara Streisand has visited Plums for their delicious ice cream after a day of filming The Prince of Tides in Beaufort. We’ve enjoyed Plums many times because it’s one of the more affordable restaurants in Beaufort SC and centrally located on Bay Street.

  • Breakwater

When it comes to restaurants in South Carolina Beaufort historical area you’ll find this hidden side street treasure of a restaurant with excellent food. The Breakwater Restaurant has a small quaint atmosphere with a friendly staff and is located off Bay Street. They have an excellent assortment of wines and American microbrews.

  • Yes! Thai Indeed

With the large amount of tourists and the nearby Marine training center South Carolina restaurants in Beaufort are embracing a more cosmopolitan attitude toward meals and dining. Of course Low Country cuisine and fresh seafood dishes will also be favorites but the newest Asian dining establishment in the area is Thai Indeed. This is a non pretentious, quality restaurant that is earning some rave reviews with customers.

  • Shrimp Shack

If you plan on visiting Hunting Island make a stop at the Shrimp Shack on your way out there. This is local dive and don't expect much. Grab a couple of shrimp burgers and sweet potatoe fries with sweet tea to enjoy on a picnic at Hunting Island which is only a 10 minute drive away. When it comes to South Carolina restaurants that are off the beaten path and loved by the locals the Shrimp Shack is one of them. You'll have to try it at least once but keep in mind it's a shack!
