Port Royal Golf Club

The Hilton Head and Port Royal SC area has long been known for having excellent golf courses. One of the coastal golfing sites that should be on every golfer’s itinerary is the Port Royal Golf Club. This course is found at Hilton Head Island’s northwestern tip. This golfing paradise is part of the Port Royal Plantation where the Westin Hilton Head Resort is also located.

The Port Royal SC Golf Club has won many awards during the years, including being selected as one of Golf Digest’s “Top 75 US Golf Resorts”. This Port Royal Plantation Hilton Head golf course was awarded another honor over 10 years ago when it was named a 1997 Silver Medal Resort by Golf Magazine.

Visitors who come to the Port Royal SC Club can play at any of three distinctly different golf courses. Each of the Hilton Head golf courses consists of 18 holes and the names were chosen to reflect the history of the Low Country. Club guests can strike out and start their golf round at the Barony, Robber’s Row or Planter’s Row. All of these Port Royal South Carolina courses have their beginning and ending holes at the Port Royal Plantation Clubhouse.

The Barony is a great Port Royal Plantation golf course that golfers of all skill levels can enjoy. This is a design by George Cobb and although the holes seem to be open and approachable the well bunkered greens will be a strong factor in your play. There is a combination of long and short holes on the back nine.

At Port Royal Plantation Robber’s Row Golf Course visitors will be playing on a newly redesigned course by Pete Dye. The variety of holes requires a strong arsenal of shots and players will enjoy the surrounding beauty provided by blossoming magnolias and regal live oaks. Many Hilton Head golf courses have beautiful surroundings.

The Port Royal South Carolina Planter’s Row golf course once was the site for the PGA Senior Tour’s Hilton Head Senior’s Tournament. The design for Planter’s Row was created by architect Willard Byrd and this setting is very different from the other two Port Royal Plantation courses.

The large fairways are lined with numerous oaks and tall pines which conveys a feeling of being in a large, peaceful park in Port Royal SC. Among Hilton Head golf courses Port Royal Plantation Golf Club is relaxing.

Players at Planter’s Row will quickly note that this Port Royal Plantation course brings water into play at many of the holes, which means precision shots are going to be necessary. When you play at this Low Country course it is helpful to be confident when using your putter because too soft a shot will fail on these undulating greens in Port Royal South Carolina Golf Club.
