Find the best Hilton Head Island golf course nestled among the Lowcountry in Shipyard Plantation Hilton Head Golf Club. Located along the island’s southern tip the Shipyard Plantation Hilton Head Golf Club greets all guests with 27 holes of challenging golf excitement.

This Low Country jewel contains the natural beauty of the coastal area of South Carolina. There are pines, native grasses, palmettos, and large live oak trees displaying branches heavily draped with yards of Spanish moss.

The Atlantic Ocean breezes and views are just one of the features enjoyed by players as they make their way along these Hilton Head SC golf courses.

The Hilton Head Seniors International played at the Shipyard Plantation Hilton Head Golf Club from 1982 to 1984. At this time the Shipyard Golf Courses were described as some of the finest course designs available on the Champions Tour. Today local residents and visitors are all welcome to come and play at these Hilton Head golf courses throughout the year.

Shipyard Plantation Hilton Head Golf Club is part of the Heritage Collection of golf courses on Hilton Head Island, and is operated by the Heritage Golf Group. These Hilton Head SC golf courses are some of the best on the coast and have been recognized by Golf Digest as being one of the Top 75 US Golf Resorts.

The Clipper Course at the Shipyard Plantation was constructed in 1970 and is the most difficult of the 3 choices available. There is an overabundance of sand and water hazards that will challenge the most proficient golfer. This is a George Cobb design which means that players need to have an excellent long game as well as a soft hand when navigating the greens on this Hilton Head Island golf course.

George Cobb was also the designer responsible for the Galleon Course that was also built during 1970. This Shipyard Golf Course is generally considered a little easier than the Clipper. The holes play out through a long section of stately pines and live oaks. The greens on the Galleon are extremely well protected and approach shots must be accurate while playing this Hilton Head SC golf course.

The Brigantine Course is the Willard Byrd design that was added in 1982. This is an excellent test of a short game and is a favorite among the players that prefer to be shot-makers. This is the most scenic of the 3 Shipyard Golf Courses and a favorite of guests.

Be prepared to deal with water hazards at each of the holes and you will often spot some of the Low Country alligators sunning along this Hilton Head Island golf course. Strategically placed bunkers and deceptive dog legs turn this course into more of a challenge at each new hole.

Visitors to the Shipyard Plantation Hilton Head Golf Club can take a break from the action and relax in the inviting clubhouse. There you will find a superbly equipped pro shop, a practice area and the restaurant, “Reflections on the Green”. Lunch is served 7 days a week and the outdoor patio is a favorite meal time setting preferred by most Hilton Head golfers. Try these 3 challenging Hilton Head Island golf courses and I know you won’t be disappointed.
